We are delighted to congratulate our research community member Martta Alajärvi (University of Lapland), whose article Kaivostoiminnasta saamelaiskulttuurille aiheutuvien vaikutusten selvittäminen – kriittisten raaka-aineiden asetus ja kansalliset menettelyt Suomessa on assessing the impacts of mining activities on Sámi culture in Finland has been selected as Ympäristöjuridiikka’s Article of the Year 2025.

According to the jury:

“The article successfully brings together several urgent and fundamental issues for our legal system that have not yet received sufficient attention: the impacts of the regulation of critical raw materials and the green transition more broadly, participation rights, the challenges of assessing cumulative impacts, and the realisation of the constitutional protection afforded to Sámi culture.”

The article (in Finnish) is available on Edilex here.

Congratulations to Martta on this well-deserved recognition!
