Sanna Valkonen
The consortium is led by Sanna Valkonen, a Sámi scholar from Northern Finland. She is Professor of Sámi Research at the University of Lapland and an Adjunct Professor of Sámi Society Research at the Giellagas Institute (University of Oulu). She holds a PhD in political science (2009) and has been actively developing the field of Sámi research since 2001, building on community-based engagement. She has studied various aspects of Sámi society, including the politics of Indigeneity and citizenship, conceptual debates, and collaborative and artistic research practices. Her current research focuses on Sámi political thought. She has led various research projects, and her recent publications include the book The Sámi World (Routledge 2022, co-edited).
