Professor Sanna Valkonen invited to join the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters

We warmly congratulate our CoE leader, Professor Sanna Valkonen, on being invited to become a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters.

Our CoE leader, Sanna Valkonen, Professor of Sámi Studies at the University of Lapland, has been invited to become a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters.

Valkonen leads the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence MultiBEING and is a member of the SuMu research community at the University of Lapland, one of the university’s strategic research profiling areas.

Reflecting on the invitation, Valkonen emphasises its broader significance:

“I see this invitation as a recognition of Sámi research and of the long-term work carried out to support Sámi society.”

Membership in the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters is a highly esteemed achievement in an academic career. The Academy may have no more than 333 members under the age of 65, and membership is granted for life.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Sanna on this well-deserved honour and recognition of her outstanding contributions to research and to the advancement of Sámi studies.
