Mikko Äijälä

Dr. Mikko Äijälä is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Lapland, Finland. He is currently working on the DEATNU project and focuses on local, Indigenous ways of knowing salmon and managing salmon fishing, and how these knowledges can be integrated into salmon policy and administration at the Teno River fishery. Previously, he conducted research on human–sled dog–place relations in a tourism context at the University of Lapland, where he holds a PhD in tourism research. His research interests include human–animal–landscape relations and the ways in which practices and forms of knowledge emerge and take shape within these intertwined environments.
