Sanna Valkonen
The consortium is led by Sanna Valkonen, a Sámi scholar from Northern Finland. She is Professor of Sámi Research at the University of Lapland and an Adjunct Professor of Sámi Society Research at the Giellagas Institute (University of Oulu). She earned her PhD in political science in 2009 and has been actively developing the field of social scientific Sámi research since 2001, drawing from community-based engagement. She has extensive experience researching various aspects of Sámi society, including the politics of Indigeneity and citizenship, conceptual debates, and collaborative and artistic research practices. Her current research focuses on Sámi political thought. She has ledvarious research projects, and her recent publications include the book The Sámi World (Routledge 2022, co-edited).
