One of the key materials in Alakorva’s doctoral thesis was the archival collection of the Saami Council, so it is particularly important for her to be able to present her findings specifically at the Saami Conference. The return of knowledge is one of the central ethical principles in Saami and Indigenous studies, and it is a principle we are committed to upholding in our Centre of Excellence.
The Saami Council is a joint, independent political organisation of the Saami people, acting as a cooperative body for Saami civil society organisations in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. The Saami Conference is the highest decision‑making body and most important forum of the Saami Council, and it convenes every four years.
Warm congratulations to the 70‑year‑old Saami Council!
